Common Questions
Got questions about our Pilates classes? We have the answers! Our team is here to provide clarity on any doubts you might have regarding schedules, techniques, or benefits.
I’m new to Pilates — can I join your classes?
Yes. Many clients are new to Pilates when they first attend. I offer clear instruction, strong foundational cueing, and options throughout class so you can work at a level that feels appropriate for you.
If you’re booking a reformer class for the first time, I recommend arriving 10 minutes early so I can walk you through how the reformer works and help you feel comfortable before we begin.
If you’d prefer more individual guidance before joining a group class, private sessions are also a great place to start.
What’s the difference between mat and reformer Pilates?
Mat Pilates uses your bodyweight and small props to build strength, control, and stability.
Reformer Pilates uses spring resistance on specialised equipment to add support or challenge, depending on the exercise.
Both are effective — they simply offer different ways to build strength and precision.
Do I need a membership to attend your classes?
At Studio One, a gym membership is required to book classes.
At Studio Two, classes are booked directly through Momence, and no gym membership is required (subject to the studio’s pricing options).
What should I bring to class?
For all classes, wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely and helps with alignment and technique.
For reformer classes, grip socks are essential. They help keep you stable and secure on the equipment, particularly when working through controlled, precise movements. Most studios require them for safety and hygiene reasons.
I also recommend bringing a small towel and a water bottle.
What happens in a private session?
Sessions are tailored to your goals and may include mat, reformer, or a combination of both. Each session is structured with strong attention to form, alignment, and intelligent progression.
Do I need to be flexible to do Pilates?
Not at all. Pilates helps improve mobility, strength, and body awareness over time. You meet your body where it is — flexibility develops naturally as you build strength and control.
Where can I book your classes?
I currently teach at two studios:
-
World Gym Cairns — Beginner & Intermediate classes (gym membership required to book).
-
Tropic State — OG classes for all levels (bookings made via Momence).
You can find direct booking links on the Classes page.
Which class level should I choose?
If you’re new to Pilates or returning after a break, a Beginner class is a great starting point.
If you’re comfortable with foundational exercises and looking for more challenge, Intermediate classes may be appropriate.
Tropic States’s OG classes are suitable for all levels, with options and progressions offered throughout.
If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out.
